North Charleston Fire Department – Station 2
The North Charleston Fire Department is responsible for protecting the homes and businesses of nearly 100,000 people located within its city limits. In an effort to provide better public service and protection to its citizens, the City of North Charleston constructed its largest fire station to date – Station No. 2 which houses three fire companies, two engines, and one aerial apparatus combining two previously separate stations.
Live Oak Consultants provided Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical Engineering services for this 18,000 square foot, two story, five bay, Fire Station. This state-of-the art facility includes a community/training facility, exercise facility, arson investigation office space, and crew living quarters: twelve bunks, one chief room, administrative areas, kitchen and dining facilities, and a laundry area. The facility is supported by a natural gas generator that automatically transfers when a loss of normal power occurs. The building features extensive grounding requirements including: lightning protection and a continuous building ground loop with grounding triad and test points.
